I finally got a chance to test out my 5D Mark II last weekend and so far so good. The quality and speed of the camera is a huge improvement from my old 10D. I took this photo of a homeless man outside of an abandon building that I’ve seen plenty of times around Lower East Side. I always thought it was just an abandoned building covered in graffiti but come to find out this building is pretty popular and has quite a history and is better known as 190 Bowery. Click here to read more about the building and also see photos of the interior which are amazing. Also I have a larger photo of the image above on my Flickr that’s not cropped.

First off thanks to my good friend Ryan for re-coding my blog for me. Each time I tried to fix it up or change the CSS on the old one it was making it more and more sloppy. I redesigned the blog similarly to the old one but this one is more organized and easier on the eyes as far as reading the posts and content.
I wanted to start posting on certain titles or subjects on a weekly basis, so to start that off I think I’m going to start a new weekly theme called Quick Pics. These are just photos taken from my phone without any manipulation to them (besides scaling them together as seen in the bottom photo). You may wonder why these have a panoramic or Holga effect to them if they are not post processed. To answer that, the effect is just from the apps that I use on the iPhone which are pretty cool.
Public Ad Campaign recently took over the streets of NYC whitewashing over 120 unlawful NPA billboards. A couple of people were arrested during this process however the end result according to the organizers was dubbed great success. Some of the whitewashed billboards was later turned into art pieces created by various artists around the city.
If you are in New York today and have some time, the Cut & Paste Global Championship is taking place at theHammerstein Ballroom at 7:00. Ticket prices are $15 online and $20 at the door and please note this is a 21+ event.
I know I am a little behind on this, actually who am I tricking. This is practically over but if you live in New York City or Greater New York you still have 2 days left to check outAdvertising Week held at the Nokia Theatre. This event has been going on all week but work has been so hectic that I over looked this event and I wish I didn’t. The daily events posted on their site have been filled with various speakers, agencies, etc. I wish I would have left some days open to attend, maybe next year. But if anyone has a flexible schedule be sure to check this out, the registration is only $49 to attend most seminars and $25 for students.
The other day I found out that MoMA will be having an exhibition starting in November 22, 2009 running until April 26, 2010 (My Birthday) featuring the works of visionary master Tim Burton. This will be a must see exhibit for me and I’m sure many others as well. The works will include pieces from his early childhood to present and will be conveyed through a variety of mediums including drawings, paintings, storyboards, digital formats, props, costumes and the list goes on. Many unseen works will be shown as well as non-movie art work that he has done throughout his career. Be sure to save the date as this will be one show that you will not want to miss.
Over the weekend I finally got a chance to go check out the High Line. I didn’t get too walk the whole thing or spend too much time there but I plan on returning soon to take more photos of the actual park itself. The day I went I guess there was a festival going on and so there were tons of people and a huge line just to walk up the stairs into the park, which on a normal day would probably have no line. Anyways since people flooded the the paths and gardens I decided to take photos of the surrounding buildings and scenery. Some more photos can be seen on my flickr.
TheHigh Line has opened just in time for summer in NYC. I first heard about this place 2 years ago during Open House New York when it was still in it’s construction phase. The park is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm and is located in the Meat Packing District along 10th & 11th avenue. The High Line use to be part of a rail road track project back in the 1930’s but that came to a haul in the 80’s and no trains have ran on that line since. The track was preserved and thus turned into what it is today.

On May 15, Coroflot is hosting an event titled Creative Employment Confab here in New York City. This 3 hour event is intended for creatives to network with each other as well as seek employment by various companies that will be in attendance. A couple of guest speakers will also be on hand to talk about what they are looking for when hiring new recruits. If you are interested in this event but live outside of NY, Coroflot has scheduled this conference in other cities later on this year including Portland, San Fransisco and Detroit.
For anyone that lives in New York there is an amazing gallery showing coming in spring titled ‘Earth From Above’. This exhibit is based off the works of photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand and from the couple of sample photos I have seen, this gallery is a must see for anyone into art, photography, nature or just wanting to see something awesome.
